Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says his side is fully focused and determined to secure a convincing result when they host Nigerian outfit Kwara United in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie.
The Porcupine Warriors will play at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21, at 3:00 p.m. Zito emphasized that the team’s mindset and approach will be crucial in ensuring victory at home.
“We are working towards our attitude, our approach. Now that we are going to play at home, we have to overcome them with a lot of goals to make it easier when we go to Nigeria,” Zito said.
“They will also try to prevent us from scoring, so that it makes it easier for them in Nigeria. We are taking this match so seriously; we won’t underrate anybody in this competition. I’m optimistic about a win on Sunday, Inshallah.”
Kotoko will be aiming to build a strong advantage in Accra before the return leg in Nigeria. Zito has already set the “money zone” of the Confederation Cup as the club’s main target this season, but insists progress depends on making a statement against Kwara United in the opening tie.
The Ghanaian giants will qualify to face Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club in the second round if they advance past the Nigerians.
