Ghanaian champions Bibiani GoldStars endured a nightmare in Algeria as they were thrashed 5-0 by JS Kabylie in the second leg of their CAF Champions League First Preliminary Round tie.
The loss, added to the 2-0 first-leg defeat in Accra, eliminated the Miners on a 7-0 aggregate.
The Canaries dominated from start to finish, with Emmanuel Kobi’s own goal setting the tone early. Veteran Ryad Boudebouz doubled the lead from the penalty spot before the break.
The second half brought more misery for the Ghanaians. GoldStars were reduced to ten men when Emmanuel Ankrah was sent off on the hour mark. Minutes later, Mehdi Merghem struck for the third, before Lahlou Akhrib added a fourth just four minutes later.
In stoppage time, Oualid Malki sealed the rout, completing a comprehensive demolition of the Ghanaian debutants.
The humiliating defeat ends GoldStars’ maiden continental campaign, while JS Kabylie advance to face US Monastir of Tunisia in the next round.
