Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has admitted the growing pressure surrounding the club’s push for the Ghana Premier League title, following their 3-0 home victory over Basake Holy Stars.
Kotoko secured the emphatic win through a penalty from Samba O’Niel and two stunning bicycle-kick goals from Albert Amoah and Kwame Poku, delighting the home supporters.
Speaking after the emphatic win, Zito stressed that pressure is part of the game at a club like Kotoko but insisted he remains determined to fight until the end of the season.
“There’s pressure on everyone. I’m doing my best and I’ll never give up until it’s over. We are seven points behind (Medeama). It’s two games plus, but anything can happen,” he said.
Zito also that the performance was a major improvement compared to their previous outing.
“I’d say I’m happy today. I wasn’t happy the last time we played Chelsea, but today I am. We were more composed and the attitude was superb,” he said.
The Kotoko coach revealed that his team was instructed to put the game beyond reach early.
“I told the boys to win the game in the first half to ease off the pressure in the second half. They did that, so I’m okay,”Zito explained.
Zito also praised Albert Amoah, pointing to a noticeable change in the striker’s mindset since returning on loan from Al Ahly Benghazi.
“Albert Amoah’s attitude has changed. When you play professional, certain things will force you to change your attitude. One is money,” he noted.
Following the victory, Asante Kotoko move up to second place with 35 points, trailing leaders Medeama by a healthy margin as the season enters a crucial phase.
