Hearts of Oak SC goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has disclosed that he did not start football as a gloves man.
According to the Ghanaian shot-stopper, he never played colts football (Juvenile) rather community and street football during the early days of his childhood stage until he switched his role through Education.
Speaking after Hearts of Oak SC goalless draw league game against Bechem United FC on Sunday at the University of Legon stadium, he made a revelation about his football career path, saying along the line in school he realised how good he was with goalkeeping, hence pursue to become a goalkeeper despite having the ability to be a player.
“I wasn’t a goalkeeper; I was a player who wasn’t playing Colts football”.
“Instead, I was playing community football. I started as a goalkeeper in the school team, and that’s when I decided to pursue it,” Benjamin Asare said.
Asare has now become a household name in Ghana and currently Accra Hearts of Oak SC captain.
He is the Rainbows first Choice goalkeeping, following his splendid performance in recent seasons. Asare having managed 11 games this season, chalked 9 clean sheets to place his outfit in the top 4.
Benjamin, is a key member of the Black Stars and contending for a spot in the upcoming Black Stars 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign squad.
