The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has paid a high-powered courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, aimed at strengthening strategic collaboration and securing greater institutional support for the development of Ghana’s sports sector.
The delegation, led by SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah, marked the Association’s first official engagement with the Minister since his assumption of office.
Addressing the Minister, Mr. Yeboah commended his open-door leadership style, noting that it has created opportunities for stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the growth of sports in the country.
“We have been extremely impressed with your relationship with sports journalists in this country. Even before you were formally appointed, you visited our office, which is unprecedented, and we are most humbled,” he stated.
He further praised the Ministry’s support that enabled Ghana’s active participation at the recent AIPS Congress in The Gambia, an event that generated positive recognition for the country across African and global media platforms.
According to the SWAG President, such international exposure highlights the growing importance of sports as a viable economic driver for Africa, stressing the need for sustained investment and structured development.
Mr. Yeboah also appealed for increased publicity and stakeholder support for the government’s sports fund policy to ensure its growth, emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen grassroots sports development nationwide.
In response, Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams expressed appreciation for SWAG’s role as a strong and influential voice within the sports ecosystem. He underscored the importance of constructive criticism and responsible journalism in shaping policies and improving standards within the sector.
The Minister further pledged to collaborate with the Association to develop training modules aimed at enhancing the professional capacity of sports journalists across the country.
The Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency also called for intensified publicity to attract investors and promote local talent development.
Other members of the SWAG delegation included Vice President Evelyn Nsiah Asare, General Secretary Charles Osei Asibey, Deputy General Secretary Kenneth Odeng Adade, and Treasurer Owuraku Nsiah, alongside other key officials of the Association.
