Former Black Stars Management Committee Chairman George Afriyie has urged caution following the Ghana Football Association’s recent decision to appoint five additional backroom staff members to support the national team’s technical setup.
The new appointments were made as part of efforts to strengthen the technical team ahead of upcoming international assignments, including the FIFA World Cup. However, Afriyie believes the move alone should not raise expectations among supporters.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the football administrator stressed that increasing personnel around the team does not automatically translate into improved performances on the pitch.
“Having more hands on board doesn’t automatically improve the team’s prospects,” he said, reacting directly to the Ghana FA’s decision to expand the technical and support structure.
Afriyie explained that success at the highest level depends more on proper planning, clear technical direction, and effective player management rather than the number of officials attached to the team.
He therefore called on fans to remain realistic about expectations, adding that long-term development and cohesion within the squad are key factors that will determine how the Black Stars perform on the global stage.
“Ghanaians should temper their expectations for the Black Stars at the World Cup,” he added.
His remarks have sparked renewed debate about whether structural changes behind the scenes are enough to significantly improve Ghana’s chances at major tournaments.
