Assistant coach Hamza Obeng has expressed disappointment following Asante Kotoko SC’s 1-0 defeat away to Karela United FC in the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko played a large portion of the match with 10 men after Henry Ansu’s 40th minute red card game to host a numerical advantage. The setback eventually proved costly as Karela United capitalized to secure the narrow victory.
Speaking after the game, Obeng admitted the result was disappointing but insisted the team must quickly shift focus to the next fixture.
“We are down with the result that we had today. It’s part of the game. We need to take it as it is and then concentrate on our next game,” he said.
The Kotoko assistant coach noted that the Porcupine Warriors created several opportunities in the first half but failed to convert them.
“We created a lot of chances inside the first half which we should have utilized but unfortunately we were not able to put the ball at the back of the net,” Obeng explained.
He also pointed out that Kotoko conceded what he described as an “easy goal” while playing a man down, a moment that ultimately decided the outcome of the match.
“We conceded that easy goal at the time that we were down by one man. But it’s part of the game. We don’t need to talk about it much. We have to concentrate on our next game,” he added.
The defeat is a setback for Kotoko as they struggle to find momentum in the stretch of the league, with the technical team now turning attention to their upcoming fixture.
Kotoko have dropped to goth after the defeat with just a point ahead of Karela who are on 28 points.
