Otto Addo, the current head coach of the Ghana National men’s team believes Antoine Semenyo’s rise to his football career at club level did not happen by fluke or chance, but Ghana national team played a crucial part in shaping the attacker and climbing up the football ladder.
Semenyo earned his maiden callup to the Black Stars in May 2022 and made his debut for the Black Stars in a 3–0 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification win over Madagascar on 1 June.
During this period the forward was trading in the English Championship with Bristol City FC but within a period of three years now playing with Premier league champions Manchester City FC. A rise in career, that Otto Addo wants some credit offered to Ghana.
He believes Ghana helped guide him, build his confidence and support his growth.
“Sometimes I don’t sleep to answer this question [getting the best of Semenyo]. I know there were times there were a lot of people who said he’s not good enough and whatsoever.
We got him when he was at Bristol and we guided him and went to Bournemouth and now he’s at Man City. I think we also have our part in developing him and giving him confidence,” he said speaking to the media ahead of Ghana game against Germany.
Semenyo who joined Manchester City in January has 10 goals and 4 assist in 21 league appearance on the 2025/26 season but netted just 3 goals for Ghana in 32 appearance.
