Former Ghana international Hans Adu Sarpei having watched the Black Stars deteriorate in recent times believe the major cause is the lack of experience in the team as well as confidence.
The former left-back believe the current crop of players at Black Stars lack confidence and experience to always show up at high level. According to him, the exact character that once defined the national team is no more.
Ghana has earned a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup but with the populace very skeptical about the team excelling amid poor results for a period now. Again, the country is in dilemma and unsettled with regards to the team’s technical direction following the dismissal of Otto Addo as head coach on Monday night.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup participant wants the team to be up and doing especially with the lack of experience and confidence.
“Don’t compare the 2010 squad to this current one. They are two completely different teams,” he said.
“We had more confidence, more experience and bigger personalities in the team than we do now. We had also played together for about three or four years before that World Cup.
“Now it’s different. New players are coming in, there are issues involving the coaching situation and the players, and they didn’t go to the Nations Cup. There are so many things happening now, so it’s not easy for the players.”
Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L when the tournament kicks off on June 11.
