Asante Kotoko SC trainer Prince Owusu has apportioned his outfit Sunday’s defeat to poor officiating. The Porcupine Warriors lost heavily in Tarkwa to Medeama SC after making seven changes to his lineup that faced FC Samertex 1996 last week.
The Ghana Premier league record holder’s (5) could not stand the wrath and sumptuous midfield of Medeama SC as they suffered a 4-0 defeat on the road.
It was week 29 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier league, as head coach of Kotoko Prince Owusu effected seven changes to his team that lost 2-1 to FC Samertex at home including a debut start for youth team player Lawson Kyei Manu.
Exactly on the 34th mark of the encounter in Tarkwa, the visitors were thrilling by three goals to nothing as first half ended 3-0 for the unstoppable Medeama SC side.
However, Prince Owusu says their defeat to Medeama SC was caused by the referee and not his tactical decision to effect 7 changes to his team.
“My tactical switch by making 7 changes to my lineup didn’t cause this defeat. The referee caused us, especially in our first goal there was two fouls leading to the goal but he ignored all”
“A team that has lost a game like this, and coming into a big like this immediately after that referees error came they[Kotoko Players] all dropped down”
“We played boot to boot against Medeama until the errors of the referee”, Owusu said after clash.
Unfortunately, for Asante Kotoko SC this defeat hands them 6th position on the league log after recording just a point in their last three league matches.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Asante Kotoko SC will prepare to face Dreams Football Club next two weeks since their week 30 opponent Hohoe United FC has withdrawn from the ongoing competition.
The Reds will travel to Tuba Astro Turf where, they will be expected to recover and return to winning ways. Sitting 6th on the standings with 43 points, leaves them with 10 points gap between Medeama SC who reclaimed the top spot after their victory.
