The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for armed robbers who attacked a team bus carrying players and officials of Berekum Chelsea, leaving one person dead.
In a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on April 13, 2026, the incident occurred on Sunday night along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.
According to police, the club’s bus, which was transporting about 30 players and officials from Samreboi to Berekum after a league fixture, came under attack from six armed men—three of whom were wielding pump-action guns. The robbers reportedly blocked the road, forcing the driver to veer off into nearby bushes in an attempt to escape.
During the attack, Dominic Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital. However, he later died while receiving treatment.
Police also confirmed that another victim, identified as George Owusu Afriyie, was robbed of GH₵4,500 during the incident. Two spent BB cartridges were retrieved from the scene to aid ongoing investigations.
The Regional Command has since deployed additional personnel and crime scene experts to the area and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects.
Authorities have urged calm as investigations continue.
