Ghana is set to make its fourth appearance when they play in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The four-time African champions are paired in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
Ghana playing Uruguay for the second time in the upcoming tournament promises to be an intriguing clash as a repeat for what happened during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a painful exit from the tournament after loosing to the Americans on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw.
Ghana was on the verge to qualify into the semi-final stage when they were awarded a penalty but it was squandered by Asamoah Gyan following Luis Suarez’s last-minute hand ball.
However, former Black Stars manager, CK Akonnor who managed the African side from 2019 to 2022 has advised the team not to seek revenge against Uruguay but focus on how to make it from the group stage.
“I was there my self. I was shocked. I can affirm how he [Asamoah Gyan] feels but we should not look at it in the way of revenge. We are going into a tournament and you need to come out good in the group and move to the next stage. You could win Uruguay and go out.
“All the games are difficult that is why it’s important not to focus on one team,” he stated on Metro Tv’s Good Evening Ghana.
Ghana will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974, face South Korea at Education City Stadium on November 28 and wind up their group matches against Uruguay on December 2 at Al Wakrah Sports Complex.
