Reigning champions of the Ghana Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have responded to the cancellation of their international friendly.
The Porcupine Warriors confirmed weeks ago that they will be playing the Jaguars in two friendly matches in November during the World Cup.
The agreement was signed by Kotoko representative, Patrick Osei Agyemang a.k.a Songo while the General Secretary of the Belize Football Federation Earl Jones signed for the Central American nation.
Unfortunately, Belize released a letter on Friday afternoon to rescind the international friendly.
“The Football Federation of Belize takes this opportunity to inform the general public that the National Team Committee has decided to rescind its previous invitation for Asante Kotoko to play a series of friendly matches against the Belize National A team. At this moment, the committee is finding it extremely difficult to mobilize the National A Team as the Premier League of Belize (PLB) will be going into its final games of the opening season for 2022-2023 and the players for the A-Team are drawn from the League.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
However, the communications director of the Ghanaian giants has also answered back to the media while speaking with Ghanasportspage.com.
“We received the official letter yesterday and it is true. It has not affected the team because it was just a friend, not an official match. They explained why that has rescinded from the game. They stated that their Team A will not be available and they don’t want an embarrassing result as well,” he said.
Following the cancellation of the international friendly, Kotoko is now arranging friendly games with lower-tier clubs to keep the team busy until the Ghana Premier League resumes.
