Uruguay forward Luiz Suraz has refused to offer an apology to for his handball clearance against Ghana in the 2010 World Cup in South africa.
Luis Suarez’s deliberate handball on the goalline denied Ghana victory late in extra time. Asamoah Gyan missing the resulting penalty and Uruguay advancing to the knockout round on penalties.
Uruguay eventually won the game 4-2 on penalties to progress to the semi-final of the World Cup at the expense of Ghana.
The forward made this revelation at a press conference ahead of Uruguay’s final group game against Ghana.
“I don’t apologize for it,” he said. “I apologize if I injure a player but I took a red card for the handball.
“It wasn’t my fault because I didn’t miss the penalty.”
Many Ghanaians who witnessed the incident of Suarez in South Africa have tag Friday’s clash as a game of revenge after their dramatic 2010 quarter-final in South Africa. Suarez’s celebration added more woes to Ghanaians as he was seen jumping for joy before heading down the tunnel after Asamoah Gyan missed from the spot.
