Ghanasportspage.com can confirm that Chris Hughton has appeared as the favorite to replace Otto Addo as the coach of the Black Stars after Ghana’s World Cup exit.
A run of one win and two defeats at the World Cup has resulted to Otto Addo’s departure but he confirmed it before the tournament.
“I said before, it was clear I would stop after the World Cup. At the moment, me and my family see our future in Germany, I like my role at Dortmund,” Addo said after Ghana exited the tournament following a 2-0 loss to Uruguay at the Al Janoub Stadium.
“I said I would resign after the World Cup even if we were world champions,” he added.
Addo’s departure means Ghana must move quickly to get a new coach in place before they continue their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in March.
It’s claimed that the GFA has three names (Chris Hughton, Didi Dramani and George Boateng) on their shortlist, with the football governing keen on making an appointment as soon as possible before the AFCON qualifiers.
But according to reports, the former Tottenham Hotspur coach could take over as replacement for Otto Addo who works as “talent coach” at Dortmund, where he previously played.
In February 2022, Hughton accepted a role as technical advisor to the Ghana national team’s coaching staff for the period of their World Cup qualifiers in March. He remained as part of the coaching staff for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United player has managed top teams in the EPL including Norwich City, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest.
Born in England, Hughton represented Republic of Ireland at the national level, where he played 51 games between 1979 and 1991.
