Ghanasportspage.com can confirm that an Israeli Premier League club, Maccabi Tel Aviv are in advanced talks to sign ex-Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan on a free transfer.
Alhassan, who came to prominence with his towering performances for the Rainbows, has been heavily linked to join Asante Kotoko on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old helped the Phobians clinch one GPL title, two FA Cup trophies, the President’s Cup and the Super Cup during his five years stay in Accra.
Sources close to the player claim the Israeli club have expressed interest to sign the centre-back but are set to face competition from Ghana Premier League holders Asante Kotoko. The report further states that Alhassan is set to be on a €6000 wage bill – an amount which cannot be afford by the Reds.
Maccabi Tel Aviv are second on the Israeli league table and are keen to battle Maccabi Haifa for the title as they remain in the market for at least one more defender with the Ghanaian international widely believed to be their top target as they look to rebuild their defence.
Alhassan was part of the Ghana home-based national team that eliminated Benin and Nigeria to secure qualification to the 2022 CHAN tournament in Algeria.
However, he didn’t make the final squad for the tournament which kicks off in few days time after, having recently fallen down the pecking order.
