Accra Hearts of Oak have in their ranks one of the most promising young talents who should be given playing time.
The 20-year-old midfielder has so far featured in 15 games for the Rainbows but he normally climbs off the bench to play.
He emerged as a man of the match in Hearts of Oak’s first victory of the season following his scintillating performance against Bibiani Gold Stars in October last year.
Coach Matic was full of praise for the young lad and predicted that he is a potential Ghana future star.
Gideon Asante who joined the Rainbows from Tema XI at the beginning of the season is a joy to watch when in possession and when he decides to dribble past players. It’s not rare to see him go past two or three of them in just one of his runs.
With his magnetic right foot, he has the penchant for faking a pass, faking a shot, faking a direction in movement before he bursts away and leaves his markers chasing shadows. His teammates and fans alike find it amusing.
His opponents, however, don’t find it amusing. Many have already labelled him as the ‘new Ronaldinho,’ but he’s not- yet. To believe the same and to then immediately expect the type of service the Brazil and Barcelona legends provided is unfair.
Despite his magnificent performances for the club and by common decree, one of the best youngsters in his position in the country, he is still only 20 years of age. For him to be giving his best at the club, he must be allowed some breathing space and not be suffocated under the huge weight of expectation.

He can dribble intelligently, and pass a ball well as his accuracy evidence, and he’ll have no issue putting his foot in when necessary or supplementing the attack. But ‘Dinho-esque’ excellence won’t happen overnight.
Before joining Hearts of Oak, Asante was a key player for Tema XI where he announced himself as one of the best in the Division Two League.
The Phobia fans love the youngster and will be hoping to see him getting enough playing time.
He has incredible skills, is so direct with his running, and dynamic style of play. He continues to impress whenever he’s given the chance.
