Former Black Stars, Asante Kotoko defender Dogo Moro has been pronounced dead after few days of illness.
The over 85-year old legendary defender was pronounced dead around 2:20am on Tuesday dawn, May 30, 2023 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi. Moro had been on admission at the said Government hospital in the Ashanti regional capital for about five days after falling sick, but tried as doctors did, their efforts was not enough as God called him into eternity on Tuesday.
The football legend was an integral part of the then amateur senior national team, then known as the Black Stars Group, helping the team to secure the 1959-1960 and 1960 Nkrumah Gold Cup. At the club level, he also played a pivotal role in assisting Asante Kotoko SC to win the 1970 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.
Witnesses of his playing days attest to the fact that his style of play as a defender is incomparable, noted for his power in the air, challenging strikers for the ball despite the fact that he wasn’t that a tall person.
The late Dogo was a Muslim by faith, and by practice, his mortal remains would be laid to rest today with the funeral rites continuing in the afternoon.
