FC Cluj forward, Emmanuel Yeboah scored twice as Ghana recorded a 3-2 victory over Congo in their opening fixture at the ongoing TotalEnergies U-23 AFCON in Morocco.
After a goalless first half at the Prince Moulay Sports Complex, Ghana saw their early dominance in the second half paid off as Ernest Nuamah scored with an assist from Emmanuel Yeboah in the 50th minute.
Congo was left confused as the match carried on and it affected them badly.
Ghana increased their advantage with another goal through Emmanuel Yeboah on the 75th minute.
Yeboah made it a brace in the 83rd minute which gave Ghana a 3-0 lead.
It was looking good for Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side who remained in total control of the game going forward but the Congolese giants were not ready to give up as their efforts saw Reich Kokolo and Yann Ngatse making it 3-2 in the dying embers of the encounter.
Congo looked in complete control during the final minutes but it was Ghana who carried the maximum points with a hard-fought win.
The Black Meteors will face Morocco on Tuesday, while Congo and Guinea also battle out on matchday 2 of the competition.
