Former Asante Kotoko head coach Michael Osei has named Richmond Lamptey, Kevin Osei Asibey and Stephen Banahene as GPL players who meet the Black Stars standard.
He argued that the trip poses exceptional qualities that make them a national team materials.
Highlighting the qualities of Hearts of Oak defender, Osei Asibey, he said he times his tackles, has composure and also has pace.
“Kelvin Osei Asibey is one player I admire so much in the Hearts of Oak team. He is phenomenal defensively, tackles well, very fast, his passing abilities and composure are just perfect. Truth be told, I’m impressed with him”, Michael told Bryt FM.
On Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey, he pointed his exceptional passing adding that Lamptey and Bibiani Gold Stars midfielder Banahene share similar qualities.
“I think Richmond Lamptey is an exceptional player. When fit, I think he is one player who is a national asset. His ball passing, control and everything is on top. Personally, I think he deserve national team call up same as Stephen Banahene and Osei Asibey. Lamptey and Banahene are players are type of players who can hold onto the ball and pass very well”
“I have watched these players several times, in my opinion and experience in the game, I believe they can fit in the national team. I’m a coach and can’t impose players on national team coaches but I think they are players should be given some attention” he said
The conversation about having Ghana Premier League player in Ghana’s AFCON squad continues as many believe Richmond Lamptey deserve a place in the team.
The Black Stars’ squad for the AFCON is expected to be named in December with tournament set to start in January 2024 in Ivory Coast.
