Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Gladson Awako has dragged the club to the Ghana Football Association, seeking to free himself from the troubles of the phobians.
Various sources from the FA, Hearts of Oak and the player tell ghanasportspage.com that Awako has reported Hearts over breaches of his contract with the club and demanding compensation from the club, while also asking the FA to punish the phobians.
Awako was reportedly stopped from training with Hearts and axed from the squad without mutual agreement after he refused to be pushed by the club and has not received salaries due him for several months.
The player holds that the team breached the contract “without just cause” and has requested to be cleared by the Player Status Committee to join the new club as a free player.
He is also asking the FA to punish Hearts severely for the maltreatment suffered in their hands, something a source at Hearts called “the biggest joke of 2024” adding that the Phobians will go all out and slug it out with Awako as he is trying to twist the arms of the club.
An unnamed official told the authoritative Ghanaian website, ghanasportspage.com that though they have been trying to negotiate and settle the matter amicably, the attitude of the player is worrying and is even part of the reason why the club finds itself struggling as he was a captain.
The former Great Olympics captain joined Hearts of Oak in 2021, where he signed a two-year deal.
After a decent first year, he renewed his contract and extended his stay by a year, but injuries, misunderstandings, and coaches’ preferences forced him out of the squad.
The FA is said to be ready to mediate and rule on the matter as Awako has also solicited the PFAG, the player union, to come to his aid in the case .
