Former Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeepers trainer, Abukari Damba has been named as interim manager for Ghana Premier League side, Karela United in the ongoing campaign.
Damba’s appointment follows the resignation of their head coach Shaibu Tanko.
Shaibu Tanko, who guided the side to top-flight survival last season stepped down as head coach of the club few days ago.
The former Real Tamale United trainer has had a torrid campaign in the 2023/24 season following the move of the club from its original home (Aiyinase) to Tamale.
With the appointment of the former RTU goalie, the Pride and Passions will hope to get back winning ways when the second round of the campaign begins.
The Passioners sits 16th in the League log with 17 points after 17 outings.
WHO IS ABUKARI DAMBA?
Abukari Damba (born 30 December 1968) is a retired Ghanaian football goalkeeper.
Career
He played for Real Tamale United in Ghana, and also in Perak FA in Malaysia. He was also capped for Ghana. Damba was selected as a reserve goalkeeper for the 1992 African Cup of Nations finals.
After he retired from playing, Damba became a football coach. He was the Ghana national team’s goalkeeping coach before being asked to step down following corruption accusations in July 2007. Damba also worked as goalkeeping coach for Accra Hearts of Oak SC.
