Sports ministry settles Black Queens’ winning bonuses on the eve of Zambia game.
The Youth and Sports Ministry has finally cleared bonuses owed the Black Queens on the eve of their game against Zambia.
The players received $7,500 each as winning bonuses for their qualifying games played in 2023. The swift payment comes barely 24 hours after Ghanaians criticised the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association and called them out over unfair treatment of the Women’s national team.
Some reputable sports personalities who led the #PayTheQueens campaign on social media include former Black Stars player Tony Baffoe, FIFA official Faisal Chibsah, as well as renowned journalists like Saddick Adams, Juliet Bawuah, Fentuo Tahiru, and Nana Aba Anamoah. Following the full payment, the team is now set to take on Zambia in the 2023 Olympic Games qualifiers.
The Black Queens are in the final round of the qualifiers after eliminating Guinea and Benin. They will face Zambia in the first leg in Accra on Friday, February 23, 2024, before the second leg on Wednesday, February 27, 2024.
