Former Asante Kotoko winger Emmanuel Gyamfi has backed under-fire coach Prosper Ogum to turn things around.
Former Asante Kotoko winger Emmanuel Gyamfi has voiced his disagreement with the mounting calls for the dismissal of coach Prosper Ogum amidst the club’s recent struggles in the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors have endured a dismal run, failing to secure a victory in their last seven matches, consequently plummeting from title contenders to a mere three points above the relegation zone.
Their recent 2-0 defeat to Dreams FC has further fueled demands for Ogum’s ousting, but Gyamfi, who holds considerable esteem within the club and its fanbase, is firmly backing him.
“Whoever says the coach isn’t good is a liar, I’ve met him before at the local Black Stars camp, I worked with him at Kotoko for some short period before my departure, and I know how he likes his team to play. Even after all, he won the league title in his first season with Asante Kotoko. Gyamfi told Ghanasportspage.com.
“His performance was appealing to the football world. That’s why people were clamouring for his second coming to help the club,” he said in an exclusive interview with Ghanasportspage.com.
“Even though we (Aduana) beat them at Dormaa but their performance on the day showed they meant business, they were up to something so whoever condemns his performance as a coach, I will strongly disagree with that person, it’s rather unfortunate that things haven’t gone the way they wanted it”
Asked whether he would fancy a return to Kotoko, he said; “I can’t expose my contract with Aduana on air but to tell everyone that I am a footballer and whoever comes for me with a good offer and terms, likely, I will join the team but I am pleading with the Kotoko fans to exercise patience with the coach and I believe with time all will be well”
Meanwhile, irate fans of the club on Tuesday stormed the Adako Jachie training grounds to halt the team’s training session and demanded the head of Ogum and his technical team from their club.
Kotoko will seek to end their winless streak this weekend as they face high-flying Samartex at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
