Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Mr. Wilson Arthur, has confirmed that the newly-constructed University of Ghana Stadium will serve as the prestigious venue for the final showdown of the 2023/24 league cup.

Amidst the competition’s thrilling semi-final stage, excitement mounts as the spotlight shifts to this state-of-the-art arena.

The Legon Stadium boasts a seating capacity of 10,000, a recent addition to Ghana’s sporting landscape, having played a pivotal role in hosting the 13th edition of the African Games just months ago. While initially under government jurisdiction, rumors swirl that this architectural marvel now falls under the purview of the University of Ghana.

Speaking on Akoma FM in Kumasi, Wilson Arthur, also known for his role as the bankroller of division one side Skyy FC, revealed the committee’s decision to select Legon Stadium as the FA Cup final venue, pending official approval.

“After further discussions, we changed our original plan to hold the semi-finals and finals at the newly constructed Tarkwa TNA Stadium and Legon Stadium, respectively. However, the TNA stadium was not ready.

Explaining the journey to this choice, Arthur mentioned the Tarkwa TNA Stadium as their original plan, which was subsequently replaced by Sogakope due to readiness concerns. However, after careful deliberation, Legon Stadium emerged as the prime location for the tournament’s culminating moments.

“We thought about going to Samarboi, but after some consultations, we decided that going to the Volta would be more helpful, so we went back to our backup plan, which was Sogakope.

“However, the Legon Stadium has been selected to host this year’s finals. We would like to choose that location for the competition’s semifinal and final rounds going forward, pending exco approval.”

As the competition heats up, fans eagerly anticipate the semi-final clashes, with Legon Cities FC set to take on Nsoatreman FC and reigning champions Dreams FC facing off against Bofoakwa Tano FC.

The Red Bull Arena in Sogakope will serve as the battleground for these thrilling encounters on May 11 and 12. Stay tuned as the journey to FA Cup glory unfolds against the backdrop of Ghana’s newest sporting icon, the University of Ghana Stadium.
