In a thrilling final Super Clash showdown of the season, Asante Kotoko triumphed over their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak with a resounding 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The match, part of Ghana Premier League Matchweek 31, showcased a stellar performance by Ugandan international Steven Mukwala, whose brace secured the three crucial points for the Porcupines.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Kotoko, as it represents their first double over Hearts of Oak since 1987.
Reflecting on the monumental win, head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed his elation, emphasizing the challenge of defeating Hearts of Oak consecutively.
“I’m very happy. Beating Hearts of Oak back-to-back is not an easy job so I am happy,” Ogum remarked in an interview with StarTimes.
He commended the dedication and effort of his players, acknowledging the honor of achieving this feat after a prolonged interval.
“I think it’s an honor for this group of players, it’s been a while I think this happened, I am not very sure of when this actually happened but it’s been a while so we are all happy and you could see when the final whistle was blown and I think Steve made it beautiful,” he added.
Asante Kotoko’s triumph propels them to the 9th position in the league standings, accumulating 43 points from 31 games.
With momentum on their side, they gear up to face Great Olympics in their upcoming home game during matchweek 32, aiming to carry forward their winning streak and secure a strong finish in the league.
