Top Libyan side joins two GPL giants for the signature of in-form Stephen Amankona

After shining in his second stint at Berekum Chelsea in the just ended campaign, Stephen Amankona is on the wanted list of top Ghanaian clubs and one other Libyan side.

His impressive tally of 19 goals have seen him pick up the league’s Golden Boot as top scorer after the 2023/24 GPL campaign.

Amankona’s exceptional performance this season was instrumental in Berekum Chelsea’s successful campaign, as they finished third in the competition, trailing only FC Samartex and Accra Lions.

However, reports gathered indicate Accra Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and top Libyan club, Al Akhadar have reportedly placed the striker on their wish list.

The 24-year-old striker rejoined Berekum Chelsea in January 2024 after a disappointing run with defending Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko but he quickly established himself as the pillar of Berekum-based club.

Amankona’s outstanding performance has cemented his status as one of the most feared strikers in the league and is expected to leave the Bibires for a bumper deal in the upcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, his former employees Asante Kotoko have reportedly showed their interest in re-signing the attacker as replacement for Steven Mukwala after such a stellar campaign in the Ghanaian top-flight.
