In a shocking turn of events, Accra Great Olympics was awarded a 3-0 victory and three points in the final match of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season against Real Tamale United.
However, the win came at a great cost for both teams, as they both were relegated to the Division One League.
Real Tamale United failed to show up for the match at the Accra Sports Stadium, citing unpaid salaries and player boycotts. The match officials waited for the allotted time for the team to arrive, but when they did not show up, the decision was made to award the win to Accra Great Olympics.
Despite the awarded victory, Accra Great Olympics could not escape relegation, joining Real Tamale United and Bofoakwa Tano in the lower division.
The team finished 16th in the league standings with 44 points, while Real Tamale United concluded the season in 18th place with 31 points.
This marks a disappointing end to the season for both teams, who will now have to rebuild and regroup ahead of their return to the second-tier league.
