Mrs Theresah Oppong, wife of Mr. Augustine Kwaku Oppong who was shot by a
police man during a club crowd controlling operation at the Baba Yara stadium,
is crying out to the general public, especially but not limited to football
leaders to come to the aid of the family since the bread winner has been left
incapacitated through the unfortunate incident.
Mr. Augustine Oppong, a staunch Asante Kotoko fan was at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday, 12th January to watch Ghana premier league match between his darling club and Berekum Chelsea but the 1-0 home defeat to the Porcupine Warriors left home fans angry, resulting in crowd disturbances after the final whistle.
In what seemed to be an attempt to disperse the agitating fans to restore order, a police officer fired a warning shot of rubber bullets, which unfortunately went straight into the face of poor Augustine causing him to lose one of his eyes completely with the other one in difficult situation following his surgery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi – Ghana.
The young commercial mini bus driver has now been left incapacitated, taking away his job in addition to his jobless wife Theresah’s situation, a development which is too hard for the mother of two to take.
Speaking to FOX FM Sports desk, Mrs. Oppong says she has no job to do, and now her husband who is the sole provider for the family is now half blind leaving them hopeless. She cried out in pains, calling for public sympathy and help to enable them put food on the table and to secure a good future for their two children – a boy and a girl.
“As for me I have no job to do, I used to fry Dutch Doughnuts to sell in the traffic holdups (on the high streets), if they buy some then I support the children with the little I get”, Mr. Oppong told FOX FM.
“Now I’m no more working, he (Mr. Augustine Oppong) who goes out to get something for us is now left with only one eye, I don’t know what I will do, it’s a lot of headache for me”, she lamented.
Theresah however appealed to the general public, corporate Ghana and the powers that be to come to the aid of the family to save them from disgrace.
“The only thing I can say is that now that fortunately he (her husband) didn’t die but lost his eye they (the public) should help me so that I can take care of the children. We really need help it’s whole lots of hardships, the kids schooling and others, it’s very sad”, she appealed after breaking down in tears.
Her husband Mr. Augustine Oppong is currently undergoing recovery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after having a successful eye surgery, but who takes care of the medical bills?
We also appeal to our readers and the public at large to help the family out.
