Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo has expressed concerns over the club’s decision to retain Aboubakar Ouattara as head coach for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
Ouattara, who took over from Martin Koopman midway through the 2023/24 season on a two-and-a-half-year deal, guided the team to secure their Premier League status with a crucial 3-2 win against Bechem United on the final day. Despite this, Polo has voiced doubts about the Ivorian manager’s capabilities, especially given the close call with relegation.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Polo questioned the rationale behind keeping Ouattara. “I don’t understand why Hearts of Oak is still keeping Aboubakar Ouattara as head coach,” Polo said. “Someone who nearly sent the team to relegation. I don’t think he has anything good to offer Hearts of Oak,” he added.
In response, Hearts of Oak have announced that they will move their pre-season camp to Asutsuare to complete their preparations.
The Rainbow Club is set to kick off their season with a home game against debutant Basake Holy Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium.
