Asante Kotoko surged to the top of the league table after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Accra Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
The decisive moment came in the 48th minute when Albert Amoah slotted home a precise out-swinging cross from Dauda Saaka, sealing the victory for the Porcupine Warriors.
This victory marked Kotoko’s second consecutive win, further cementing their strong start to the season. The Porcupine Warriors dominated the game, enjoying 55% of the possession and creating 17 goal attempts compared to Accra Lions’ five. Despite their dominance, Kotoko only managed four shots on target, while Accra Lions tested the Kotoko goalkeeper twice.
Although the scoreline remained narrow, Kotoko’s commanding performance was evident, particularly in their disciplined defense, which secured a clean sheet. The win puts Kotoko level on points with Bibiani Goldstars but at the top of the table due to their superior goal difference.
Kotoko will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face Legon Cities in their next fixture, while Accra Lions, struggling in the early stages of the season, will aim for a turnaround when they meet Berekum Chelsea.
