The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is rumored to be in discussions with a German coach, following concerns over Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s ability to lead the team.
According to Asempa FM, GFA President Kurt Okraku held meetings with the unnamed German coach during his recent trip to Germany, with the goal of strengthening the Black Stars’ technical team. The reports suggest that while Otto Addo will remain in his position, the German coach, who is considered more experienced and tactically adept, will join the team in an advisory role.
Though he will not have an official title, his influence on the backroom staff is expected to be significant. This development comes amid growing pressure on Otto Addo due to Ghana’s poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars have yet to secure a victory in four matches, drawing twice and losing twice. Most recently, they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Libya on October 15, 2024, and played out a 0-0 draw with Sudan at home five days earlier. Ghana also lost to Angola and managed only a draw with Niger. With only two points from four games, Ghana currently sits third in the group standings, trailing Angola, who leads with 10 points, and Sudan with seven.
There is growing speculation within the GFA that qualifying for the 2025 AFCON may be out of reach, but they are focused on ensuring the team qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States. While the GFA remains committed to Otto Addo for now, his future could be in jeopardy if the Black Stars fail to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
