Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has issued an update on forward Albert Amoah’s injury following the Porcupine Warriors’ 1-0 defeat to Heart of Lions on Sunday.
The former Great Olympics attacker sustained a knee injury in the intense Ghana Premier League encounter at Obuasi, a match that ended Kotoko’s unbeaten home record and marked their second consecutive league defeat. Kwadwo Obeng Jnr’s decisive goal secured three points for the visitors, leaving Kotoko in need of a quick recovery to stay competitive in the title race.
Coach Ogum, addressing Amoah’s condition after the game, confirmed that the forward suffered a direct blow to the side of his knee, resulting in swelling and severe pain. “He took a direct hit to the knee, which is now swollen and very painful. He couldn’t walk and had to be assisted onto the bus,” Ogum explained. “It looks serious, but I’m confident our medical team is fully capable of getting him back on the field soon.”
Amoah has been a pivotal figure for Kotoko this season, netting five goals in just eight league appearances, making his injury a significant setback. His return will be crucial as Kotoko seeks to rebound from recent losses and reclaim momentum in the league.
Following the defeat, Kotoko has dropped to third place in the standings, sitting on 15 points. They now turn their focus to an upcoming fixture against Bechem United, where they hope to regain form and strengthen their campaign in the Ghana Premier League.
