Assistant coach of the Sudan national team, Ignatius Osei Fosu, has praised Kwesi Appiah, describing him as the best coach to have led the Black Stars of Ghana in the past decade.
Appiah, who last coached the Black Stars in 2019, led the team to the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt. Despite his achievements, he was dismissed by the administration led by Kurt Okraku and replaced by Charles Akonnor.
However, Appiah’s impact on African football extends beyond Ghana. He was instrumental in guiding Sudan to their first-ever qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Reflecting on Appiah’s career, Osei Fosu, who works alongside him in the Sudan coaching staff, emphasized his qualities as a top-tier coach. “Kwesi Appiah is the best coach in the last 10 years to have handled the Black Stars,” Osei Fosu said in an interview on MAX TV.
In addition to his work with Sudan, Appiah has made a strong start in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, leading the Falcons of Jediane to the top of Group B with 10 points from four matches.
Sudan will look to continue their impressive form when they face Senegal and South Sudan in March 2025. During his tenure as Black Stars coach, Appiah recorded 7 wins from 54 competitive matches.
