Nations FC defender Razak Simpson has shared his experience with the Black Stars during their recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, detailing the emotions and challenges he faced upon his debut.
Simpson made his first appearance for Ghana in the matches against Angola and Niger, earning praise for his performances, especially in the away game against Angola.
Reflecting on his time with the national team, the 26-year-old revealed the personal significance of his call-up.
“I was just going about my day when I received a call from Otto Addo. He congratulated me and said, ‘Razak Simpson, I’m calling you to be part of the Black Stars, and I’ll speak to you on Thursday at 12 p.m.
“When I hung up, I got down on my knees and thanked God for answering my prayers,” Simpson recalled in an interview with Akoma FM.He described the weight of the Black Stars jersey, admitting that it initially felt overwhelming.
“It wasn’t easy to wear the Black Stars colors. When I put on the shirt, it felt heavy, but I reminded myself that this was my dream, and I had to focus on playing my best,” he said.
Despite his impressive debut, Ghana’s failure to qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 21 years meant that Simpson’s contributions were not enough to secure a positive outcome for the team.
Nevertheless, he remains hopeful for future opportunities, vowing to continue improving in hopes of earning another call-up.
“I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing, striving to improve my game for another chance with the Black Stars,” he added.
