Kwame Baah Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), was forcibly removed from his office on Thursday by unidentified individuals, allegedly linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to reports from Kumasi-based Luv FM, the group stormed the NSA office at Baba Yara Stadium, locking all offices except for that of the Administrator. The men demanded that Baah Mensah vacate his office and hand over the keys to both his office and official vehicle.
Asokwa police, led by ASP Kofi Aboagye, intervened to restore order and ensure Baah Mensah’s safe exit. The situation escalated as several NSA staff members in the Ashanti Region supported the actions of the intruders, celebrating the removal of their boss.
Employees accused Baah Mensah of misconduct, citing issues such as inappropriate promotions, victimization, poor working relationships, corruption, and the nonpayment of allowances for four months.
Police officers assisted the embattled director in packing his belongings, while the growing group of intruders eventually left after discussions with law enforcement.
In a dramatic turn, staff prevented Baah Mensah from taking packs of bottled water, claiming they were purchased with NSA funds.
Baah Mensah was jeered by employees as he left in a private vehicle, with some hurling insults and expressing delight at his departure.
The incident underscores deep divisions within the NSA Ashanti Regional office and raises questions about the management of the Authority.
