Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League continued with a slim victory over Karela United at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium, thanks to Justice Blay’s second half penalty.
This vital win brings the Porcupine Warriors at the top of the league, having secured five wins and one draw in their last six league games. They now lead Gold Stars with one point and their sworn rivals Hearts of Oak by four.
Having ended the first half goalless, the decisive moment came when Baba Yahaya won a penalty in the 60th minute, and Justice Blay successfully converted the spot-kick to hand the Porcupine Warriors a hardfought win.
Coach Ogum’s side faced a stern test from the visitors who came into the match with high expectations. Despite their winless run and benching Maxwell Agyemang, Karela’s defensive organisation held firm. Goalkeeper Ganiu Mohammed was instrumental in keeping Karela at bay, making crucial saves.
