The Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Kwamina Asomaning, has announced plans to partner with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), various sports federations, and institutions to help revitalize the dwindling fortunes of Ghana sports.

The announcement was made when the leadership of SWAG led by President Kwabena Yeboah called on Mr. Kwamina Asomaning to congratulate him on his election as the President of the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) and to thank the financial institution for its unflinching support for the SWAG Awards.

Mr. Kwamina Asomaning indicated that, “Stanbic Bank Ghana recognizes the importance of sports in promoting national unity, development, and pride.

We believe that by partnering with key stakeholders in the sports industry, we can help unlock the vast potential of Ghanaian sportsmen and women.

“The Stanbic Bank Ghana has been a long-standing partner of the SWAG Awards, demonstrating its commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence in Ghanaian sports.

The bank’s commitment to sports development is also reflected in its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, where sports has been identified as a key pillar.

“At Stanbic Bank Ghana, we value the role that sports play in promoting social cohesion, healthy lifestyles, and economic development,” Kwamina Asomaning explained.

“As such, we have made sports development a key component of our CSR initiatives, and we are committed to supporting the growth and development of sports in Ghana.

“Kwamina Asomaning emphasized that sports is a significant unifier, bringing people together across cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds. “Sports has the power to inspire, to motivate, and to unite,” Kwamina Asomaning said.

“At Stanbic Bank Ghana, we believe that by investing in sports, we can help build a more cohesive and vibrant society.

“In line with this vision, Kwamina Asomaning announced that Stanbic Bank Ghana is considering going beyond professional sports to invest in talent identification and development at the grassroots level.

“We are exploring opportunities to support 2nd cycle school sports, recognizing that this is a critical stage in the development of young athletes,” Kwamina Asomaning said.

“By investing in school sports, we can help identify and nurture talent, providing young athletes with the support and resources they need to succeed.

“SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah who was accompanied by Charles Osei Asibey, Secretary General, Kenneth Odeng Adade, Deputy Secretary General, Mavis Amanor, Women’s Commissioner and Mr. Ohene Bampoe Brenya, and Exco member commanded Stanbic for investing in local content sports.

He also thanked Stanbic bank for the long lasting relationship. Over the years, Stanbic Bank Ghana has invested in various sports disciplines, including Table Tennis, Swimming, Cycling etc.

These investments have helped to promote the development of these sports, and have provided opportunities for Ghanaian athletes to compete at the national and international levels.

Kwamina Asomaning emphasized that the partnership is a long-term commitment, and Stanbic Bank Ghana is willing to work with all stakeholders to ensure the success of Ghanaian sports.

“We believe that together, we can achieve great things and restore Ghana’s pride in sports,” Kwamina Asomaning concluded.

Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Communications at Stanbic Bank Ghana, praised the partnership, saying “Our partnership with SWAG is a significant boost to the promotion of sports in Ghana.

It’s a partnership that will help to promote the sports brand and ignite passions among Ghanaians.

“Mr. Afadzinu stressed on the strategic investment in Ghanaian sports events, including the 2008 Cup of Nations, which was hosted in Ghana that featured teams and visitors from across Africa and the bank’s support for the just-ended African Games, which brought together top athletes from across the continent to compete in various sports disciplines.
