Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has announced a 22-man squad for Sunday’s pivotal Ghana Premier League fixture against Karela United at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians will be aiming to return to winning ways after a recent dip in form that has seen them slide to 7th place on the league table with 41 points.

With just one win in their last five matches, Sunday’s encounter is seen as a must-win as they seek to close the season strongly.

Leading the goalkeeping department is Benjamin Asare, who is expected to start between the sticks following a series of solid performances this season.

In defence, Ouattara has called up experienced centre-back Konadu Yiadom alongside Michael Ampadu, Mohammed Sherif, Emmanuel Amankwah, and promising youngster Raphael Amponsah.

Ransford Mensah, David Oppong Afrane, and Kelvin Osei Asibey also feature in a backline known for its resilience having conceded just 17 goals so far this campaign.

The midfield is stacked with both creative and industrious options. Theophilus Collinson, Enock Esubonteng, and Kwasi Asmah are joined by the likes of Kwabena Boateng, Mohammed Hussein, and Mawuli Wayo, offering the Phobians a blend of flair and physical presence. Martin Karkari, Stephen Appiah Asare, Seth Osei, and Ahmed Ramzy Yussif complete the midfield options.

In attack, Hearts will rely on the trio of Abdul Aziz Adam, Asamoah Boateng Afriyie, and Hamza Issah to provide the goals against a struggling Karela United side.

With the visitors languishing in 16th place and battling relegation, the Phobians will be keen to take full advantage of their strong home record especially having never lost to Karela United at home since 2020.

Sunday’s clash promises to be a high-stakes affair for both sides, with Hearts pushing for a top-four finish and Karela United desperate to escape the drop zone.
