Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) are set to appoint former Dreams FC coach Karin Zito has replacement for Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Ghana Sports Paage understands that Zito will sign a short term contract until the end of the season.
The contract will have an option to extend the deal for two years depending on his performance for the remainder of the season.
The former coach of Ghana’s U17 and U20 teams is said to be in his way to Kumasi to close the deal.
Zito, who also serves as the head coach and technical director of Dreams FC, has significant experience in the Ghana Premier League, having managed several clubs including Hearts of Oak, King Faisal, WAFA SC, B.A. Stars, and Medeama SC.
A former player for Asante Kotoko, Zito was part of the 1983 squad that won the club’s last CAF Champions League title. This would mark his second stint at the club, having previously served as a stopgap coach. Zito’s most recent success includes guiding Dreams FC to a historic semi-final appearance in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.
With six games remaining in the season, Asante Kotoko has slipped to fourth place in the league standings, accumulating 47 points. They will next face Aduana Stars in an upcoming fixture.
Under Ogum, the team recorded 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses, scoring 28 goals and conceding 21, averaging 1.68 points per game. Despite their struggles in the league, Kotoko is still in contention for silverware in the MTN FA Cup, where they will face Berekum Chelsea in the semi-finals.
