President of the International Kickboxing Federation (IKF-Ghana), Ahmed Ibrahim has lambasted former GFA Spokesman Ibrahim Saani Diarra over his comment on the reduction of Black Stars winning bonuses.

Prior to Ghana’s FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Chad last week, the Sports Ministry revealed to the public the reduction of the senior national men’s team- Black Stars winning bonus. According to Hon. Kofi Adams amount of $2 million for the two games was budgeted but slashed it to $1.3 million citing over expenditure. In his overview, canceled fuel money, reduced technical team bonuses amongst others.

An amount of GHC 5800 ($5,000) was allocated for fuel in Chad by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), however seen it cancelled by the Ministry. Hence, amount of $841,290 approved for Chad game whiles $463,600 for Mali game.

He also reduced bonuses for the technical team, as they will now receive $4,000 for both encounter.

Then again, canceled $10,000 bonus budgeted by GFA for Black Stars Management officials.

This step by the Sports Ministry saw, Saani Diarra a former Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) hitting the ministry for such decision, insisting that will affect the team. He went ahead to say, not even “military government will reduce the salaries of military officers prior to a war”.

His comment have failed to sit down with President of the International Kickboxing Federation Ahmed Ibrahim who believes football is not the only sport discipline in the country, hence the less known sports including boxing, tennis, swimming, Kickboxing etc, also deserve some financial support for tournaments.

“It’s quiet surprising, to hear Saani make such comments. He should be aware, football isn’t the only sports discipline in Ghana. There are several disciplines who will need help from the ministry”

“Besides, the Black Stars picked a positive results from both qualifier matches played so where comes in the huge monetary factor and influence” To reduce Black Stars winning bonuses is a good step to supporting other disciplines”

“Saani should know, Black Stars isn’t the only product putting Ghana on the map, as a former GFA worker he should know better” His comment is just below the belt and neither here nor there”, Ibrahim told Kolog Bonaventure in an interview.

Ghana is currently on the verge of booking their ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars sit summit of Group I with 19 points, after 8 matches.
