Ghanaian-born striker Jordan Mintah has opened up on his decision to switch nationality and represent Malaysia at international level, describing it as a “big opportunity” at this stage of his career.
The 30-year-old, who plays for Malaysian Super League side Kuching City FC, revealed that while he once dreamed of donning the Black Stars jersey, the difficulty of breaking into Ghana’s national team led him to take a different path.
“I’m happy that I’ve switched nationality. I had the dream to play for the Black Stars, but it’s not easy to get a call-up. So when I see this as a big opportunity,” Mintah told Ghanasportspage.
“I’ve not played for Malaysia yet, but I don’t have any dream of playing for the Black Stars again. I’m focused on playing here and making my money. For now, I’m not ready to play for Black Stars and I can’t betray the people who have given me the opportunity.”
Mintah has spent the last five years in Malaysia, joining on a free transfer in 2020.
He has since established himself in the domestic league, earning recognition that ultimately paved the way for his naturalization.
The forward now hopes to make his international debut for Malaysia as they continue preparations for upcoming fixtures in both World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers.
