Hearts of Oak were left frustrated on the opening night of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season after being held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.
The Phobians, under the guidance of head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, went into the fixture as favourites following a positive pre-season.
They enjoyed more of the possession in the first half, with midfielder Abdul Karim dictating play and forward Frank Abora Duku looking lively in attack. However, their inability to convert dominance into clear-cut chances proved costly.
The turning point came in the 67th minute when Hohoe’s new signing, Solomon Adomako, was shown a second yellow card and subsequently sent off on his Premier League debut.
The dismissal handed Hearts a numerical advantage for the final stages of the match.Despite the extra man, the home side failed to break down Hohoe’s disciplined defence, marshalled superbly by captain Osman Safian.
The visitors, making their maiden top-flight appearance, displayed resilience and composure, frustrating their more experienced opponents. The stalemate leaves both sides with a point apiece.
Former Ghana Premier League champions have increased their Matchday one winless record to seven[7]. Hearts of Oak will travel to Dawu in Matchday two to battle with Dreams FC.
