CAF Confederation Cup: Coach Abdul Karim Zito come face-to-face with his appointment task Sunday
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter
Asante Kotoko SC at the end tale of 2024/25 Ghana league season, fired Prosper Nertey Ogum for experienced Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey as head coach of the side. Deep source at the club revealed, that Karim Zito was coming in as a technical director for Ogum but hours to his arrival in Kumasi, Ogum left the warriors coaching job.

Fast forward, Karim Zito managed few games as Kotoko interim guiding them to the MTN FA Cup triumph.

Then again, sources within Kotoko hinted that Zito purpose for returning to the Ghanaian heavyweight was for their campaign in Africa. Having led Dreams FC to the semi finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup only to suffer exit by losing 3-0 at home to Zamalek, Zito could replicate same energy, marathon technique and tactical discipline to Kotoko side for an overwhelming campaign.

After the 2024/25 season, management of the Reds confirmed Karim Zito as new head coach of the side, with the task of winning the premier league and excelling in Africa this campaign. But Zito seems to have started a rough campaign and should let his experience count this weekend.

Asante Kotoko SC got paired with Nigerian outfit Kwara United FC in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. With huge expectations set, Zito would need to exhibit all his coaching prowess else fall in his first attempt.

The Porcupine Warriors picked a narrow 4-3 victory over Kwara United FC last week at the Accra Sports Stadium and would be taking them on in the second leg. The team has touched down in Nigeria, for that crunchy encounter.

Considering the result from first leg, Karim Zito has a huge task to deliver and progress to the next phase else purpose for his appointment gets to be questioned.

Their epic clash with Kwara United FC is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abeokuta. Kwara United lost the first leg 4-3 but scored three away goals, giving them the strong chance to overturn the deficit.

All supporters of Asante Kotoko SC will be chanting from Ghana, hoping and awaiting to see the positive outcome of game on the side of Karim Zito. A test so much for any coach to overcome in Asante Kotoko SC last five attempts.

In the last five years (from the 2019-20 to the 2023-24 seasons), Asante Kotoko SC has participated in the CAF Champions League in the 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2022-23 seasons, and in the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
