Former Veep of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie, has opposed the sacking of Black Stars coach Otto Addo despite severe criticism from Ghanaians.
The former Dortmund youth trainer is on the verge of booking Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in Mexico, Canada and USA. Otto Addo has just one more hurdle to clear thus against Comoros on Sunday in Accra. Just a draw hands the West African country ticket to the Mundial.
Despite, brilliant statistics in the World Cup qualifiers for Otto Addo, winning 7 matches and drawing 1, his future has become a subject of public debate with many still believing he is not the finest manager for Ghana and ought to be sacked.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams, in a recent interview, suggested that while Addo has shown promise, he has also benefited from a measure of luck, indicating some reservations about the coach’s long-term tenure.
George Afriyie in an interview with Asempa FM insisted on the call to fire Otto Addo, rather advocating for an experienced trainer to be appointed to help him.
“Sacking Otto Addo at this point is not the right decision,” Mr Afriyie said. “We should get a more qualified coach to support Otto Addo.”
