The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, has urged Ghanaian football fans planning to travel to next summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup to submit their visa applications early.
Montrat revealed that Canada—one of the three co-hosts of the tournament alongside the United States and Mexico—is already working closely with its partner nations to ensure smooth processing ahead of the global showpiece.
“We are working very closely in the USA and Mexico. My advice for people would be to put in their application as early as possible,” she told Citi TV.
The High Commissioner’s comments come as anticipation builds for the expanded 48-team World Cup, with many Ghanaians expected to make the trip to North America.
Canadian authorities are expecting a significant rise in applications, and early submission is expected to help minimize delays and avoid last-minute complications.
The 2026 World Cup will be the first in history to be hosted by three countries, and the first to feature the expanded format, increasing the number of matches and attracting record fan attendance.
Blacks Stars will make their fifth appearance at the prestigious inter-continental tournament after winning their group during the qualifiers.
