Hearts of Oak legend Charles Taylor has expressed disappointment following the club’s early exit from the MTN FA Cup, after a shock 1–0 defeat to lower-tier side True Life FC.
Speaking on Angel TV, the former Hearts winger criticised the current squad for what he believes is a lack of seriousness and competitive spirit.
“We were very serious during our time,” he said, recalling the intensity that characterised Hearts of Oak’s golden era. He shared an anecdote from his playing days to highlight the competitive mentality within the squad.
“Even at training, my own teammate threatened to foul me badly if I didn’t stop dribbling him,” he recounted, underscoring the fierce internal competition that drove the team to success.
Taylor further suggested the introduction of stricter performance-based measures to raise standards among the current players.
“These current Hearts players should be placed on a match-before-salary basis,” he argued, emphasising the need for accountability and improved performances.
Hearts of Oak must now shift focus back to the Ghana Premier League as they look to recover from the setback.
