Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana, George Seija, has praised Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea for his performance in the AFCON 2025 semifinal between Nigeria and Morocco, rating him 9 out of 10.
Although many Nigerians were not pleased with the Ghanaian’s performance, Seija, on the contrary believes Daniel Laryea was remarkable on the night.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Seija expressed strong satisfaction with Laryea’s handling of the high-profile encounter, insisting the referee was composed and fair throughout the game.
“If I were the match commissioner in the Nigeria vs Morocco game, I’ll give referee Daniel Laryea’s performance 9/10,” Seija said.
Laryea, who was officiating his second match of the tournament, was under heavy scrutiny due to his Ghanaian background which conflicted with Nigeria, who are viewed as Ghana’s fierce rival.
Morocco went on to win the match on 4-2 on penalties and secure a place in the AFCON final, with Laryea’s performance now widely commended by officials and some sections of the media.
