The President of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal has awarded the Senegalese national men’s football team with huge sum of money as well as plots of land, for returning home with the African Cup of Nations.
The Lions of Teranga snatched the 2025 African Cup of Nations title from host nations Morocco in extra time of the grand finale which ended in a 1-0 dramatic fashion.
Early goal in the first half of extra time, by Papa Gueye made the difference for Senegal to clinch their second African Cup of Nations in the last three editions.
Upon arrival back home in Senegal, the AFCON 2025 champions received a hero’s welcome from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye but did not end there.
The President has awarded each player $135,000 and a 1,500 m² plot of land on the Petite Côte. Each staff member will receive $90,000 and a 1,000 m² plot of land following their victory in AFCON 2025.
Diomaye Faye is awarding $6.2M and 68,000 m² of land to the African champions, the Lions. Each player is set to receive 1,500 m² of land and $135,000.
This unprecedented reward reflects the historic achievement of Pape Thiaw and his team, who have now reached the pinnacle of African football.
In addition, honoured Coach Pape Thiaw and the national team players with elevation to the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Lion of Senegal.
Senegal in the history of the Cup of Nations, made 18 appearance since 1965 but won it twice thus 2021 and 2025.
