Laryea Kingston is worried with the current injury situations with Black Stars players ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament mid this year but hoping the team just secure qualification from the group phase.
The four time champion of Africa has England, Croatia and Panama in the same group following a successful draw held in 2025. They will begin their campaign with Panama in Group L fixture before England and Croatia.
However, head coach of the Ghana national men’s team Otto Addo faces hectic challenge with player injuries. A part of the game that could change the scenario of a crucial match even before it kicks off.
Yet, former Ghana international Laryea Kingston is optimistic of Ghana advancing beyond the group stage at the 2026 World Cup.
“For me, I don’t really expect anything more than for us to go through the group stage. I’ll be happy for us to go through the group stage, but my worry is that some of the players have picked up injuries”
“If Otoo Addo gets these trusted players fit, then we can do something,” he added.
“Otto Addo has been with these players for some time, and I am told that they now understand themselves, so he should be comfortable with the players as well,” Kingston noted.
Among the injured are Mohammed Salisu, Mohammed Kudus, Tariq Lamptey, Francis Abu, and Abdul Mumin.
Ghana will open their campaign on June 17 in Toronto, then face England in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
